Emmy G. Spoke Norwegian

To create this piece I used liquid porcelain enamel, sgraffito and silk-screened enamel decals. I wanted to address the "Speak English Only" movement. It is a reminder to all of us that this country was built using illegal immigrant labor from all over the world. My Great Grand Mother could read, write and speak 5 languages but Norwegian remained her 1st language. Emmy G. entered this country illegally and lived out the remainder of her life here as a Norwegian citizen.
